Sensor Technology Inc. Announces Shipments of Deep Ultraviolet LEDs

January 5, 2005… Columbia, South Carolina USA – Sensor Electronic Technology, Inc. (SETI) announced the initial shipments of its deep ultraviolet light emitting diode (DUV LED) products UVTOP?. The company began marketing AlInGaN-based DUV LEDs emitting light in the spectral range from 265 nm to 365 nm. These sources are being used in a variety of applications currently using mercury and/or deuterium lamps, or solid state and gas lasers.

Compact DUV LEDs operate at low voltages, contain no toxic materials and do not produce ozone. Numerous applications are expected to utilize this technology including fluorescence-based sensing, spectroscopy and analytical instrumentation, water and air purification/disinfection, UV-curing, and food safety inspection.

SETI offers unpackaged LED dies as well as several packaging solutions including hermetic lamps with lambertian or narrow (+/- 10癌 angular radiation profiles. The company has already shipped UVTOP? products to more than 40 customers.

?The initial orders for our deep UV LED products came from manufacturers of testing equipment and sensors, interested in evaluating these novel deep UV light sources for applications in both existing and future systems?, says Dr. Remis Gaska, President and CEO of SETI. ?We are currently expanding our customer base and plan to penetrate very high volume markets for water and air purification and disinfection products?.

Support for the development of DUV LED technology at SETI came from the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (program manager Dr. J. Carrano).
